Irresponsible security measures in Amritsar resulted in a dreadful accident.

On Friday, in a horrendous accident around 60 people were died and close to 50 other injured in Amritsar after two speedy passenger trains ran in opposites direction mowed down crowd while standing across railway track near Jhoda Phatak in Amritsar while they were watching Ravan effigy in flames and celebrating Dussehra event. Congress Leader of Punjab was Chief Guest.

An eyewitness who stayed nearby accident spot said, "It was scheduled to be burnt at 6.15pm and DMU train as scheduled to 7pm but invited Chief Guest Navjot Kaur Sidhu belated arrived in the event so the programmed started behind the schedule. It was 7pm when the Ravan effigy was burnt after her speech."

On the accident site, many of them spectators standing across the track to shoot a better view video of flamed Ravan. Whereas the DMU train was coming from the side of Hoshiyarpur and head to Amritsar ran them over. Some of them startle and jumped on the second track to escape but Amritsar-Howrah Express was coming on another track and people caught under it.

When DMU train passed by, Amritsar- Howrah Express which was on other track crossed an adjoining track. A boundary wall furcated the railway track from Dhobi Ghat ground. There are three tracks in the area.

According to the report, there were 300 viewer gathered to watch Ravan at Dhobi Ghat ground which is scarcely 2km far from Amritsar railway station. On other-side report is not exculpated and hanged in confliction as to why people had gathered & standing along to track. Different sources quoted, Organizers asked them to move backwards while others say as the fireworks went off.
Spectators retreated towards the track to avoid flames.

"It had become too dark & everyone was watching burning Ravan effigy. The train was suddenly appeared and the cracker's smoke had bought lowering down visibility and we didn't hear the coming train", a witness said.

AAP National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "Exceedingly sad news coming from Amritsar. I requested all our volunteers to become a helping hand in relief work and provide help to authorities at this moment of crisis."

Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab announced one-day mourning on Saturday and confirmed am inquiry in the Amritsar train mishap. He had come in Saturday morning and personally supervises relief operation.
