Are girls yet not safe in Bihar?
Ipseeta Das (Delhi)- Patna proves to be unsafe for girls when the news ‘Mob thrashes 34 minor girls’ grabbed each eyesight. At present no place is totally safe for girls no matter of any religion, age, caste or color; every girl had been raped or molested at least once in her life. On the evening of 6th October 34 minor girls of Darpakha village. This atrocious incident took place because of the minor girls' averse sexual advances.
These girls were the students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Darpakha village, Supaul district Patna. KGBV belongs to all SC, ST, OBC and minority communities. All the girls belonging from sixth to eighth classes were brutally injured and their treatment is going on in Referral Hospital in Triveniganj.
The entire barbaric act started at 5 PM on 6th October when the girls were playing in the school campus and a group of youth belonging to a nearby village and some students of the middle school started harassing the girls sexually. The girls somehow fought with the groups of youths by throwing sticks and stones on them. After this, the group of youth brought their parents with other villagers who started beating up every girl brutally. The mob left the bleeding girls and place after destroying the school property.
The scenario was immediately informed to the local administration by the hostel warden Reema Raj. The students were then taken to a health center for first aid. Two out of 34 girls were severely injured so they were shifted to Supual Sadar Hospital.
Reema the hostel warden said, “After the classes were over the girls were playing in the ground and suddenly, the girls started screaming and shouting. First, I thought they were making noise while playing. When the voices got louder, I saw around 15 people, both men, and women thrashing the girls with canes and rods. I alerted the security guard reached the school campus, they ran away.”
The girls said that the group of youths from the neighboring village often harassed them and on objective this inhuman act their parents bet them. Supaul DM Baisya Nath Yadav said that the complaint was filed against the group of youths and the mob that harassed the minors and strict action will be taken soon. He said, “Both the schools are in the same campus but have separate buildings and common playground. The girls asked them to not write vulgar messages on the school walls. The youths later sexually harassed them, which the girls opposed and beat them up. Later the boys called their parents and thrashed the girls.”
After this incidence was reported to Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma the education minister of Bihar he said, “To avoid such incidents in future, the department will take steps to ensure the safety of girls in schools, especially residential ones. The department will appoint female constable and security personnel in the girl’s schools.”
