The explosion at Bhilai Steel Plant
Ipseeta Das (Delhi) - The explosion at the Bhilai Steel Plant constructed in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh killed nine employees and 14 employees were injured. This dreadful accident took place in the gas pipeline on 10th October Tuesday.
Bhilai Steel Plant is said to be India’s sole producer and supplier of the best quality rails for Indian Railway Stations. It has a record of producing 260 meter long rails as well as best quality steel plates. It had an annual production capacity of producing saleable steel of around 3.153MT.
The detonation at the plant of the state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (India’s largest steel maker) happened around 11.30am in the town of Bhilai which is 30km away from Raipur.
The inspector general of police GP Singh said, 24 employees were working inside the plant when this awful explosion took place. After getting the news, the police personnel with the rescue team rushed to the place of the accident and immediately took the victims to the nearby local hospital.
GP Singh also said, “At least nine people were burnt to death while 14 others received injuries and most of them were said to be in a serious condition.” SAIL even issued an official statement which stated that this dreadful incident killed nine and fourteen were undergoing medical treatment for their injuries.
It also said that the fire took place in the gas pipeline of Coke Oven Battery Complex No.11 when the maintenance work was on. Later, the fire was controlled by the rescue team. In the statement SAIL even mentioned that “All resources have been mobilized to provide adequate care to the injured.”
